Karen TerHaar Senior Account Manager
Karen C TerHaar has more than 15 years’ experience in international business and economic development, fundraising, sponsorship, and strategic marketing and networking within the private, public and non-profit sectors. Karen is hands-on, working with clients to raise their velocity in the market and to generate results by tactically identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding proprietary relationships with corporate partners globally. She has a strategic mindset, and is a forward thinking, growth oriented professional recognized for consistently delivering exceptional results.
As Senior Account Manager, Karen currently supports the Air Force Association, American Veterans Center and The Hagley Museum and Library. She leverages her strong organization, communication and management background, whilst building upon her keen ability to efficiently analyze and synthesize business intelligence to assist these clients.
In support of her clients’ fundraising and development goals, Karen helps navigate a competitive and complex business environment. She is an essential component in developing and executing strong and tailored message marketing campaigns, cultivating C-suite-level relationships and uncovering unique opportunities for her clients. Most recently, Karen, acting quickly in response to COVID-19, collaborated with her client to create several initiatives to address COVID-19, with which to approach donors, given the evolving situation in the face of the continued challenges and impacts of the coronavirus.
Prior to joining LPG, Karen spent 10 years with Odell Simms Lynch where she held diverse leadership roles in business development, corporate relations and marketing efforts. She led teams across a range of clients in economic development and business retention as well as in fundraising and sponsorship. Her background includes extensive involvement with international investment promotion agencies and economic development authorities where she was responsible for the strategy and delivery of securing significant levels of foreign direct investment for cities and regions across the UK, Germany and Thailand. Karen cultivated and grew B2B relationships and trade and investment initiatives for Brazil, Japan, New Zealand, and the Prince of Wales’ International Business Leaders Forum. Some of her most rewarding moments included directing Think London’s most successful North American marketing campaign which secured a record number of new investments and created thousands of new jobs, adding millions of dollars of North American investment capital to London’s economy, promoting Rio’s forthcoming 2016 Olympics through a global B2B events program to unlock new investment opportunities during the London 2012 Games, and, identifying a new business segment opportunity and founding Odell Simms business retention services group, generating a new revenue stream for the company.
A graduate of George Mason University with a BA in International Studies, Karen has two children and resides in Potomac Falls, Virginia with their pet fish Martin.
